Excerpt from Land Planning and Classification Report as Relates to the Public Domain Lands in the Lower Platte Sub-Basin (Platte River Basin), Nebraska
Interviews were had with representative county agents, farmers and ranchers in the area. Special mention is made of the assistance furnished by Dr. G. E. Condra, Dean of the Conservation and Survey Division, University of Nebraska and Dr. E. C. Reed, Assistant State Geologist, University of Nebraska, who made available the abundant reference material in their custody. Officials of the Soil Conservation Service, United States Department of Agriculture provided a land capability map which was very useful in connection with the examination of the public domain lands. Field work consisted of a detailed classification of public domain lands within the area, primarily to Obtain an up-to-date inventory of the resources thereof, to determine their physical and economic relationship to the area as a whole, and to devise a feasible means of future management or disposal of such lands.
