We submit herewith to you, and through you to the next General Assembly, our report upon the matters referred to us as members of the State Tuberculosis Commission.
Inasmuch as the suppression of this disease has become a great world problem, and this problem is now to be officially taken up in Indiana, we have in this report, following your suggestion, gone into the subject of tuberculosis in such a way as will, we hope, serve to guide the General Assembly in its consideration of the various questions, medical and social, which may arise in connec tion with its deliberations.

The proliferation of tuberculosis during the early 1900s placed an enormous strain on the American healthcare system, prompting the creation of a national movement to combat the disease. This book examines the pioneering work of a state commission appointed in Indiana to investigate the best approach to fighting tuberculosis, documenting the early history of the nationwide campaign against a disease once considered an inevitable plague. The author details the commission's findings and recommendations, which significantly influenced the development of sanatoriums and preventive measures, and explores the challenges and successes of the early anti-tuberculosis movement. Ultimately, this book sheds light on the historical roots of modern efforts to control infectious diseases and highlights the power of collaboration between medical professionals, policymakers, and the public in improving public health.
