Excerpt from An Act to Incorporate the City of Chicago: Passed March 4, 1837
Ele°fi°n~ sect. 5. An election shall be held in each of the wards of said city, on the first Tuesday 1n March in each year, after the year eighteen hundred and thirty' seven, at such place as the common council of said city may appoint, and of which six days previous public notice shall be given in writing. In three public places in each ward by the inspectors thereof.
