It was the fortune of the writer to be born a Christian and to believe implicitly in the infallible correctness of the Scriptures for many years. It was also his fortune to reach the conclusion that between truth and human reason there can be no real antagonism. The following papers are the result of this conviction, and were wrought out at first not with the design of defending, neither of destroying, nor yet harmonizing, any doctrines, but simply with the view of ascertaining the {rut/e as a matter of per sonal interest.
