I might here alfo remark to what a hard Shift the Miniller is pm to find proper Hymns at the Celebration of the lord'r-supper, where the leople will ling nothing but out of Da vid's plalm-bock How perpetually do they repeat fome part ofthe xxiiid or the cxviiith Plaim And confine all the glorious Joy and Melody of that Ordinance to a few obfcure Lines, becaufe the Tranllators have nor in. Dulg'd an Evangelical Turn to the Words of David; no not in thole very Places where the jamji) Pfalmifi feems to mean the Gofpel; but he was not able to {peak it plain by reafon of the Infancy of that Dif penfation, and longs for the Aid of a Clari flzan Poet. Tho', to {peak my own Seule freely, I do not think David ever wrote a Pfalm of fullicient Glory and Sweetnefs to reprefent the Bleflings of this holy Inllitu tion of Cbrifl, even tho' it were explain'd by a copious Commentator; therefore 'tis my Opinion, that other Spiritual Songs lhould fometimcs be us'd to render Clari fliaa Pfalmody compleat. But this is not my prefent Bufinefs, and I have written on this Subjefi elfewhere.
To proceed to the Second Part of my Pre face, which is to fhew bow iafitfitlrient a flrifl Tia/t ation of the Pfalmr ir to attain the de fign'd End.
