Excerpt from Dis Angiospermen und die Gymnospermen
In dem vorliegenden Buche habe ich so verschiedene Fragen unserer Wissenschaft erörtert, dass ich mich veran lasst sah, demselben einen ganz allgemeinen Titel zu geben. Durch diesen Titel soll aber auch angezeigt werden, dass die Beziehungen zwischen Angiospermen und Gymnospermen fest zustellen, eine meiner Hauptaufgaben war. Die Wahl der beiden Namen besagt, dass ich meine frühere Auffassung des Gymnos permen-ovulum als Fruchtknoten aufgegeben habe; hiermit musste ich auch die Bezeichnungen Archispennen und Meta spermen fallen lassen. Die samenknospen-theorie der Ovula hat in diesem Buche ebenfalls eine zeitgemässe Umgestaltung erfahren. Behandelt wird man in demselben weiter die Ent wickelungsgeschichte der Ovula und die Anlage des Embryosacks, dann die Beschreibung einiger wichtiger Oolysen finden. Die Fragen nach der Befruchtung und Keimbildung bei Gymnosper men hoffe ich endlich ihrer definitiven Lösung noch etwas näher gebracht zu haben.
