Jusqu'ici on s'est fort peu occupé de la question de l'ac cent oratoire en général d'une part et de celle de l'inversion du complément direct en ancien français de l'autre. Quant au rapport entre cet accent et l'inversion, rapport qui consti tue précisément le sujet du présent travail, il ne semble pas qu'il ait jamais été élucidé par les philologues. Et pourtant la question de savoir si, en ancien français, l'emploi de l'inversion du complément direct avait pour but de mettre en relief tel ou tel membre de phrase, comme on pourrait le supposer a priori, ne laisse pas d'être très importante.
