The speeches address the complex relationship between the bourgeoisie reformist party and the socialist party, as well as anti-militarism, the agrarian question, and the role of cooperation. Guesde argues that the socialist party must continue to push the bourgeoisie reformist party to hold to its promises to the workers and that reform will naturally lead to a greater push for the socialist agenda. He also takes time to criticize neo-anti-patriotism, and emphasize the need to recognize both the value and limits of the syndicalist approach to labor organization and reform. Guesde insists that while syndicalism can achieve reforms, it cannot bring about the necessary transformation of class structure required for true workers' liberation. Finally, Guesde emphasizes the need to organize rural workers and peasants to grow the socialist movement.
