Excerpt from The Hebrew Psalter, or "Book of Praises", Commonly Called the Psalms of David: A New Metrical Translation
Psalms. The Venerable Edward Churton, m.a., Archdeacon of Cleveland, presented to the public in that year the version which is known as the 'cleveland Psalter.' In an elaborate preface the Archdeacon reviews the various metrical versions of the Book of Psalms which have from time to time appeared in England, pointing out the reasons for the proposition he broadly maintains that 'none are so successful as to preclude an attempt after higher perfection.'
