Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the significant impact of the Protestant Reformation in England and its differing path from the Reformation on the continent. The author traces the events that led to the division of the Church of England from the Catholic Church discussing the role of King Henry VIII and the motivations of key figures such as Thomas Cranmer. This narrative highlights the crimes and violence that accompanied this tumultuous period in English history and examines the plunder of ecclesiastical property by the Crown which enriched the monarch and his allies at the expense of the Church. The author contrasts the English Reformation with that of the continent, where reforming movements sought to challenge and redefine the doctrines and practices of the Church rather than sever ties completely. The establishment of the state Church of England under Elizabeth I is examined, its dependence on the civil power and the destruction of any true unity of faith under its authority. The book concludes by discussing the Anglican claims to have reformed themselves and positing that such claims are contradicted by the historical facts. The insights offered in this book will be of great value to those interested in the history of the Reformation and the origins and nature of the Church of England.
