Permit me, on behalf of the new-york Typographical Society, to express the pleasure we feel in beholding so large a number assembled this evening to participate in a celebration of the Birth of one whose name and fame, though the common property, not alone of our country, but of the world, is more particularly dear to those who daily pursue the same profession in which he labored, and by the aid of which he raised himself to the summit of renown.
