Excerpt from The Country's Trouble and the Christian's Consolation: A Discourse Suggested by the Late Lawless Invasion of Canada, and Preached in the Baptist Chapel, Brantford, C. W., On the Morning of Sabbath, June 10th, 1866
Cannot be resisted, that had not Fenian votes been regarded by the place seekers and politicians of the great Republic as of more value than justice and law and morality, the blood of Canadians would never have stained the battle-field of Lime Ridge. Nor can we wonder, if many are inclined to suppose that the tardy action of the Government of the United States in suppressing the outlaws, was only taken when it became evident that n perseverance in their do-nothing and sympathizing policy would array against them not only the whole material resources of the British Empire, but the moral sense of the civilized world.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book, written in 1866, delves into the events surrounding the Fenian Invasion of Canada, an act of aggression by Irish separatists. The author, a minister, explores the causes and implications of the invasion within a religious context. He argues that the troubles faced by Canada at the hands of the Fenians are a reflection of God's wrath, and calls on Canadians to turn to faith for solace. Examining the moral questions surrounding the invasion, the author argues that while resistance to invaders is justified, true strength and safety can only be found in God. This insightful text explores the intersection of religion, patriotism, and the search for peace in the face of adversity. Its historical and theological perspectives offer a unique and thought-provoking examination of a turbulent period in Canadian history.
