IN presenting this Collection to the public, the compiler desires to express his obligations to the Rev. J. S. B. Hodges, D. D., and Messrs. Oliver Ditson Co. For permission to insert several chants and hymn tunes, composed and arranged by Dr. Edward Hodges, late organist of Trinity Church, New York, to whose example and influence the Church in America is deeply indebted for its great advance in correct musical taste, and whose memory will always be tenderly cherished by those whose cultivated tastes will enable them to appreciate him. Also to Dr. William H. Walte'r, organist of Trinity Chapel, New York, for chants and tunes now published for the first time.
