Excerpt from The Christian in Life and in Death: A Sermon, Preached in Dunkeswell Church, on Sunday, January 27, 1850, by the Rev. John Blackmore, A. M. (Rector of Ashford, Devon), On Occasion of the Death of Elizabeth Posthuma, Widow of the Late Lieut. General Simcoe, of Wolford Lodge, Devon
I feel, and doubtless you feel with me, that the occasion of my standing in this holy place today is one of a deeply solemn and alfecting character, the death -the departure rather - Of a friend esteemed, revered, beloved - most justly esteemed, most justly revered, most justly be loved by us all. Well indeed may we mourn the loss of such a friend! Butit is our privilege through the grace and mercy of God, notto mourn as those without hope: Oh no!' We think of the departed, we look back at the piety oi her life, and see the humble Christian living in the Lord; we look at the peacefulness of her death, and see the peacelul Christian dying.
