I confini degli Stati Sardi continentali vengono quasi tutti determinati dalla natura, cioè dal mare, dai monti, dai fiumi e dai laghi. Sono essi, ad estro, il Mediterraneo, a ponente, il Varo, indi le Alpi Marittime sino al Monviso, ove ad un tratto verso maestrale si portano alla prima Alpe Cozzia, cioè al Monginevro e al collo della Ruota donde si discende ig Savaja, divisa nella stessa direzione dalla Francia sino al lago di Ginevra, che a barca la separa dalla Svizzera. Da questo punto incomincia una giogaja di montagne paralelle al Re dano, che giungono alla prima delle Pennine Alpi, cioè al Gran San Bernardo, ed indi si prolungano, a mezzanotte sino alla prima delle Alpi Retiche, cioè al San Gottardo cosi questi monti dal lago di Ginevra sino al San Gottardo si adergono come barriera tra la Svizzera a tramontana. Quindi una catena di montagne, che a levante separa la valle Ossolana dalla Levantina, conduce i confini colla stessa Svizzera insino al Lago Maggiore sopra Cannobbio; donde uscendo il Ticino, serve di limite col regno Lombardo-ve neto sino alla sua foce nel Po sotto Pavia.
