This in-depth study of the catena, or scriptural commentary was widespread in early Christianity, explores the relationship between the three main manuscript traditions - designated as X, Y, and Z - that have preserved the catena on the Pentateuch, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The author presents a detailed methodology for discerning the affinities between the Y, X, and Z traditions, demonstrating that the Y tradition stands apart from the others in terms of content and development.
