Still continuing the use of the most common statistics of population, I propose next to direct attention to one of the most formidable prob lems which have to be dealt with by our Impe rial Government, and for the knowledge of which we are mainly indebted to statistics. I refer to the growth of the population of our great depend ency, India. I have already referred, in the most general terms, to the peculiar and compli cated relations which are likely to grow up.
