Im Verlaufe der beiden letzten Jahrzehnte hat die boden kundliche Forschung kräftigen Aufschwung genommen. Die Fort schritte der Kolloidchemie eröffneten neue Anschauungen; die Aus bildung der Methoden der physikalischen Chemie gestattete, Fragen in Angriff zu nehmen, die früher kaum lösbar erschienen. Aber nicht nur die Kunst, auch die Wissenschaft muß leider nach Brot gehen. Es fehlt bisher an bodenkundlichen Lehrstühlen. Nur die norddeutschen forstlichen Hochschulen und die Universität München besitzen vollwertige bodenkundliche Professuren. Deutsch land steht hierin gegenüber anderen Ländern zurück; leider auch in den Besitz von einem Forschungsinstitut, wie z. B. Es die Vereinigten Staaten von Nordamerika in dem Bureau of Soils, einer vorwiegend der wissenschaftlichen Bodenforschung dienenden Einrichtung, haben.
