Inhaltsangabe

This book traces the curious beginnings of geometry, from ancient fields to evolving ideas. It invites you to see math as a human story, not just formulas.

In clear, accessible language, it surveys how practical needs shaped geometric thinking across ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, China, and Greece. It explains how early measurements and arithmetical tools grew into a theory that unlocks the shapes and spaces around us. The edition presents historical context, key sources, and a path from practical craft to theoretical geometry.

• Learn how early land surveying, temple layout, and architectural planning influenced geometric ideas.

• Explore ancient documents and inscriptions that hint at practical geometry and measurement.

• See the progression from hands-on techniques to the Greek pursuit of geometric principles.

• Understand the shifting view of geometry as a science and its connections to calculation.

Ideal for readers curious about the history of math and how geometric thinking developed over time.
