Excerpt from Variability of Wheat Yields in the Great Plains
Yield variability decreased in the 4 Northern Plains states-montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming-due to both improved weather and technology. In western Kansas, western Nebraska, and Oklahoma Panhandle, and in most counties of eastern Colorado, an increase in wheat seeded on cultivated summe r fallow and on irrigated acreage helped to make wheat yields more stable in 1940-62 than in the earlier period.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This non-fiction book explores the relationship between weather and wheat yields in the Great Plains of the United States over the period of 1926-1962. The author uses county-level data on wheat yields, rainfall, and other variables to analyze the impact of weather on wheat production. The book finds that weather is a major factor in determining wheat yields, and that the relationship between weather and yields has changed over time. The author also discusses the implications of these findings for farmers, policymakers, and others who are interested in the wheat industry. The book concludes that weather will continue to be a major factor in determining wheat yields in the Great Plains, and that farmers and policymakers need to be aware of the risks associated with weather variability. The book is a valuable resource for anyone who is interested in the wheat industry or in the impact of weather on agriculture. It is also a valuable contribution to the literature on climate change and its potential impacts on food production.
