Atque ut Caroli Magni res gestas ad memoriam universam generis humani unice pertinere constat sic amplissima litterarum mon umenta in hoc volumen conducta etiam longe extra Germanorum fines lacem historicae cognitionis et nominatim quidem ad res Italicas Gallicasque deferunt, imo vero communem tum ascensionem duarum illarum potestatum ap eriunt, pontificiae et imperatoriae quaram gravissima et per 'diuturna certamina deinceps consecuta complurium sae culorum memoriam maxime continent.
