Je crois bien avoir signalé, ici même, à p1'0p05 d'un Livre élé mentaire destiné aux élèves ingénieurs de langue allemande, et dont M. Kiepert refondu les éditions successives, l'appel qu'il adressait dans sa préface aux ingénieurs Écrivez - moi, leur demandait-il, ce que vous trouvez qui manque dans mon Livre, ou ce qui est de trop. Cet appel me semble fort raisonnable. Il appartient au savant d'enchaîner les idées et les démonstrations, à l'homme de métier de savoir ses propres besoins. A la vérité, il ne les sait pas toujours aussi bien qu'on pourrait croire, quelquefois parce qu'il ne réfléchit pas sur son art, quelquefois par pure ignorance, parce qu'il ne pense pas aux choses qui lui manquent et dont il ne sait pas qu'elles existent et qu'il pourrait se servir. Il est vrai 311551 qu'on peut être à la fois un ingénieur et un savant; cela n'est pas rare dans notre pays, où quelques - uns sont même savants dans leur métier. Une sorte de consultation comme celle dont je parlais tout à l'heure donnerait sans doute des résultats intéressants.
