The major focus is placed upon the application of apparent principles, implementation of behavior modification techniques, and measurement and evaluation of program effectiveness. The applications include a variety of settings such as psychiatric hospitals, schools institutions, day-care centers, the home as well as "outpatient" applications. A major portion of the text elaborates positive reinforcement, punishment and negative reinforcement, and extinction. For each principle, diverse technique options, dimensions which dictate program effectiveness, limitations, and salient issues are reviewed. The final three chapters consider self-control, response maintenance and transfer of training, and ethical issues and future directions.
