Das Erscheinen einer dritten Auflage giebt mir die erwünschte Gelegenheit, abgesehen von manchen Verbesserungen, ein kurzes Vorwort beizufügen mit dem Zweck, dem Leser den Standpunkt anzuweisen, von dem aus ein rich tiges Verständnis der Auseinandersetzungen im Buche erleichtert wird. Dafür schien es mir vorteilhaft, den leitenden Grundgedanken der Ausführungen noch von einer andern Seite zu fassen, als im Buche geschehen ist. Es ist daher dieses Vorwort zugleich ein Nachwort.
