Bien qu'elle ait été tant de fois agitée, la question des rapports réciproques des dialectes n'a pas encore reçu de solution définitive; aussi n'a-t-il pas paru complètement inutile de la reprendre ici. Le but du présent travail est de déterminer la place qu'occupe, dans l'ensemble des dia lectes grecs, celui qui se parla en Eolie. C'est lui qui sera posé comme centre à cette étude, et les autres ne seront mis en cause que pour lui être comparés.
