Daß ich gerade mich der schwirigen arbeit unterfangen habe, mag die folgende darlegung der entstehung meines bu ches wenigstens einigermaßen rechtfertigen.
Seit fünfzehn jaren bin ich akademischer lerer und habe von anfang an über indogermanische grammatik gelesen; teils trug ich grammatik einzelner indogermanischer sprechen vom standpuncte der smachwißenschaft auß vor teils grammatik der sämtlichen sprachen, die den sprachstamm bilden, so ge nante vergleichende grammatik. Wenn ich nach der anzal der zuhörer welche auch dise lezteren vorträge fanden, und nach dem anß dauernden fleiße, mit welchem sie gehört wurden, schließen darf so müßen sie wol den gegenstand in einer dem anfänger zugänglichen weise dar gelegt haben. Mein heft arbeitete ich merere male um. Namentlich war es mir eine ware freude, für meine hiesigen zuhörer und schüler zu erbei ten; iret an regenden teilname verdanke ich die lust und liebe, mit der ich mich einer völligen umgestaltung meines in zwei halbjaren vor getragenen heftes über vergleichende grammatik der indogermanischen sprachen unterzog.
