Excerpt from Anselmo, Vol. 1 of 2: A Tale of Italy
There is hardly an incident of any importance in these volumes, which is not founded on facts. Fiction has done little more than combining them in one connected narrative. The localities are generally preserved, as well as the order of time. One error of memory has inadvertently occurred in the first volume, about the epoch of La Touche's visit to Naples with. The French fleet, which took place, not in the passion week, but during the ad vent, and within the nine days preceding Christmas, days of prayer and fasting, known by the name of La Vigil'ia da' Natale.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book sketches the history, customs, and social order of southern Italy, particularly the lifestyles of the region's upper classes, during a time of tremendous political upheaval. This narrative of the lives, loves, marriages, divorces, and travels of the nobility intersects with the dramatic backdrop of the French Revolution and the tumultuous events in Italy that follow. The author uses the lens of one prominent family's story to explore the broader social and political themes of the period, presenting this narrative alongside a thorough description of the region's rich landscapes, food, and traditions. The insights this book offers into the lives of a little-known noble class during a time of great transition forge a valuable contribution to this period of history.
