Excerpt from Alice of the Inn, Vol. 1: A Tale of the Old Coaching Days
I must explain that the celebrated coach called the Wonder, running between London and Shrewsbury, changed horses at our place. We were so nearly half way that the up coach and the down coach arrived within a few minutes of each other.
The horses were always perfectly ready, and the guards, most days, only just sounded the horn.
