This book covers the years just before and during Queen Anne's reign in England, which saw the end of the War of the Spanish Succession and the negotiation of the Treaty of Utrecht. The corruption, mismanagement, and debt that plagued England before the war are exposed, as well as the negotiation tactics and behind-the-scenes dealings during the peace process. The author also sheds light on the characters and motivations of leading figures in government, including the Duke of Marlborough, the Earl of Godolphin, and the Earl of Sunderland, among others. This book will appeal to anyone interested in the history and politics of 18th-century England.
