Excerpt from The Head Voice and Other Problems: Practical Talks on Singing
From a rather wide acquaintance with what has been Said on this subject in the past hundred years, I feel perfectly safe in submitting the proposition that the human mind can believe anything and be conscientious in it.
Things which have the approval of ages emit the odor of sanctity, and whoever scoffs does so at his peril. Charles Lamb was once criticised for speaking disrespectfully of the equator, and a noted divine was severely taken to task for making unkind remarks about hell. Humanity insists that these time honored institutions be treated with due respect. I have an equal respect for those who believe as I do and those who do not; therefore if anything in this book is not in accord with popular opinion it is a crack at the head of the idol rather than that of the worshipper.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the intricacies of voice training, delving into the challenges and triumphs of developing a beautiful singing voice. The author, a passionate voice teacher, offers a unique perspective on the subject, drawing from years of experience and a deep understanding of the human voice. He challenges the prevailing notions of voice placement and argues for a more holistic approach that prioritizes the mental and musical aspects of singing. This approach resonates with the historical lineage of Italian bel canto, a revered tradition that emphasized the beauty of tone and a mastery of technique. However, the author presents a fresh perspective, suggesting that a true understanding of voice training begins with a refined musical ear and a focus on creating a clear tone concept, or mental picture, of the desired sound. This book dispels common misconceptions about the mechanics of voice production and offers practical advice for cultivating a rich, resonant, and expressive voice. The author emphasizes the importance of a free and relaxed throat, a crucial element in achieving effortless and beautiful vocal production. He also addresses the complexities of developing the head voice, the upper register that often poses the greatest challenge for singers, and provides a detailed methodology for achieving a full, vibrant, and flexible head voice. This insightful book offers a roadmap for singers and teachers alike, revealing the secrets to unlocking the full potential of the human voice.
