Das Gebiet der Geographie in seinem vollen Umfange ist aber nicht scharf gegen andere Zweige der Naturwissenschaft abgegrenzt, sondern viele Gebiete aus Physik, Geologie und Anthropologie können und müssen zugleich auch als Forschungsfeld des Geographen angesehen werden. Beim Studium der Erdbeben nun kommt diese Verwandtschaft ganz besonders zur Geltung, und wenn im folgenden die Erdbeben von Konstantinopel betrachtet werden sollen, so muß notwendig vorher der Rahmen festgelegt werden, innerhalb dessen sich der Geograph dabei zu bewegen hat.
