On April 29, 1915, when I first saw her, she complained of pain in the abdo men, coming on every two to three months, and a band of pain around the fore head. She had a fat, full face, suggesting an alcoholic habit, although She denied alcoholic excess at any time, and stated that for the last eight years she. Has taken no alcohol at all. She was garrulous, and there was a good deal of over-action in her face, when talking. The heart and lungs showed nothing abnormal; the liver was not enlarged. On palpation Of the abdomen, there was pain all over, reaching as high as the costal margins; a pulsating aorta could be felt. The pupils were equal, reacted to Shading and the eye move ments were good. The palate and the sclerotics were insensitive to touch. The cranial nerves Showed no abnormality. The knee jerks were glib and equal sensation was good over the legs; the plantar reflexes were flexor; clonus was not present: passive position was good, and the calves were slightly tender on deep pressure. There was no sphincter trouble. There was no history of syph~ ilis, and the Wassermann reaction was negative.
