Excerpt from Theosophy and Christianity

These papers were originally written for the columns of the Bombay Cat/301i: Examiner, in which they appeared during the course of 1904. They were occasioned by the recent appearance of two articles on Theosophy in the magazine East and M31, and were addressed to Indian readers, especially to Parsees, some of whom took a good deal of interest in them. Theosophy has not many adherents in this country, but it has some, and its hypothesis of Re incarnation is not unfrequently discussed. But what is of much more consequence, the Problem of Evil, which Theo sophy is an attempt to solve, is one of the most burning of questions for those who take interest in the reasons which people allege for the loss of their faith. It is because Father Hull discusses this question in so able and instructive, and at the same time so temperate, a way, that his little volume seems 3, likely to prove acceptable to English readers. The original form of newspaper articles, with the Parsi gentleman's letter.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the captivating realm of Theosophy, a system of thought that emerged in the late 19th century and has since sparked intense debate. The author thoughtfully examines the core tenets of Theosophy, presenting them as a coherent set of doctrines seeking to explain the universe and humanity's place within it. Through a series of essays, the author compares these ideas to the Christian faith, highlighting both points of convergence and stark differences. The book explores Theosophical ideals of spiritual unity, universal brotherhood, and the inherent divinity within each person, demonstrating how these concepts resonate with Christian teachings. However, the author argues that Theosophyââ â¢s worldview, particularly its doctrines of reincarnation and karma, fundamentally contradicts Christian beliefs about the nature of God and the afterlife. The author also probes the practical implications of Theosophy, questioning whether its emphasis on individual enlightenment and spiritual realization can be effectively applied to the diverse and complex realities of human life. The author contends that the ethical ideals espoused by Theosophy owe a significant debt to the long historical development of Christianity, suggesting that a deep understanding of Christianity is essential for grasping the full context of Theosophical thought. Ultimately, this book invites readers to grapple with the profound questions of human existence, revealing the complexities and potential limitations of both Theosophy and Christianity in their quest to make sense of the world and our place within it.
