Excerpt from The Dominican Lay Brother
As will doubtless be noticed, but few foot-notes and references are given in the course of these pages. The reason for this is that the book is intended for the general reader rather than for the historian, while the principal sources used in its compilation are noted earlier in the fore word. Such a plan, besides seeming the best to the writer, was advised by friends, both in the Order and out of it. Their generous aid and sympathy in the little enterprise cannot be too highly appreciated.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the history of the Dominican lay brother, a lesser-known yet vital part of the Dominican Order. The author traces the development of the religious life from its roots in the early Church to its formalization under Saint Benedict. The unique contributions of the Dominican lay brother are then examined, highlighting their role as essential supporters of the Order's mission of preaching and teaching. From their origins in the 13th century, lay brothers have played a crucial role in maintaining the Order's monasteries and providing support for the Dominican priests. The book also explores the lives of some of the most notable lay brothers, such as Blessed Simon Ballachi and Blessed James of Ulm, who exemplified the virtues of humility, obedience, and charity. Through their dedication to manual labor and their commitment to the Dominican charism, lay brothers have made a significant impact on the Church and the world.
