Excerpt from Select Works of S. Ephrem the Syrian: Translated Out of the Original Syriac, With Notes and Indices
The period at which he lived is not known with great exactness, though there can be no doubt that he was born pretty early in the fourth century, and died somewhere about the year 870. His mode of life, upon the whole, may perhaps be fairly represented by his own remarks upon a portion of Elijah's history, which shall be added here.
