The place from which they departed was the Mission-house of St. Mary's, on a little river now called the. Wye. Traces still exist to mark the site of this cradle of European colonization in Upper Canada. It was at first at some dis tance from any Huron town, but some years after this date, on the min of the frontier towns, a village was grouped around it.
