Excerpt from The Lord's Supper
ON Mount Zion, in Jerusalem, there is a very ancient building, in which the traveler is shown a large upper room; Tradition points to this room as the place where the Lord's supper was instituted by Jesus on the even ing of his betrayal. The original building that stood in the time of Christ was doubt less destroyed, and the present one, contain ing the large upper room referred to, may have been erected on the same site. The sur roundings fit most admirably the New Tes tament narrative given of the room, the sup per, and what followed.

The author delves into the broader context of how early Christian rituals were linked to Jewish practices while establishing a distinct identity. The book interrogates the idea of the 'Lord's Supper' as a representation of spiritual nourishment, exploring how it relates to feet-washing and communion, shedding light on the profound symbolism and communal nature of these practices. The author promotes a holistic understanding of the 'Lord's Supper' by examining how it has been observed throughout Christian history, emphasizing the need for a faithful continuation of the tradition as established in the New Testament.
