Un fait si plein d'éclat, à une époque déjà féconde en chro niques et en écrits de toute sorte, a agi sur tous les esprits et laissé sa trace dans tous les écrivains du temps; et les deux procès qui ont poursuivi tour à tour par tant d'interrogatoires et d'enquêtes la condamnation de Jeanne d'arc et sa réhabilita tion, ont recueilli une masse de témoignages qui, sans cette cause toute providentielle, eussent été perdus pour l'histoire. Or, il y a un double écueil parmi tant de richesses c'est tout à la fois de trop confondre et de trop distinguer.
