Das erste Buch dieser Schrift enthält die Geographie dieses Landes. Gern bitte ich mich hier etwas kürzer gefasst, wenn ich mich mehr auf vorhandene liilßmittd hätte berufen können. Aber auch hier musste das Meiste erst von mir zusammengetragen und verarbeitet werden. Je doch wird bei den bisherigen mangelhaften und geringen Durchfonch ungen des Landes meine Arbeit mit der Zeit noch manche Berichtigung, und Ergänzung erfahren miis sen. Ich hegte anfänglich die Absicht dies Land noch selbst zu benison; allein bis jetzt ist diesen' Wunsch un erfüllt geblieben. Die an einem paar Stellen verlgeissena Karte babe,ich mich erst nach dem Dmcke derselben ent schlossen zuriiokzuhalten, weil ich darauf aufmerksam ge macht bin, dass die älteren Messungen der Franzosen in jenen Gegenden auf welche sich auch meine Zeichnung hauptsächlich stützen musste durch die neuem der Eng lander ganz unbrauchbar gemacht werden wurden. Bis diese zugänglicher werden, muss d'anville's Karte aus helfen.
