The author delves into the vibrant, complex socioeconomic world that shaped the late Middle Ages, exploring the relationships between social structure, economic activities, and political change in the West. The author argues that medieval society was defined not by the feudal system of lords and vassals, but rather by a far more intertwined network of relationships encompassing peasants, artisans and merchants, the Church and the nobility. This groundbreaking work is a must-read for scholars and general readers alike, as it offers a thought-provoking exploration of the forces that shaped medieval society.
