Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book uncovers the fascinating history of medieval German knights who served as mercenaries in the armies of northern and central Italian city-states during the 14th century. Their story is deeply entwined with the Guelph-Ghibelline conflict, a centuries-long struggle between supporters of the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor. The author reconstructs the lives and motivations of these knights, who were crucial to the political and military landscape of the time. Through extensive research in Italian archives, the book presents a wealth of new information about their origins, backgrounds, organization, and their impact on Italian history. It sheds light on the complex political alliances and rivalries of the period and provides a unique glimpse into the lives of these adventurous warriors who left their mark on both their homeland and their adopted country. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
