Excerpt from Mémoires, Vol. 11: Textes Élamites-Anzanites
Je ne prétends pas qu'un peuple étranger ne puisse emprunter à un autre peuple un système d'écriture sans l'épurer. Je dis que les Anzanites l'avaient fait, en épurant, dès l'époque de Naräm Sin. Un système imparfait n'est pas fatalement congénère à celui qui l'emploie, et rien n'empê cherait, absolument parlant, que des Sémites par exemple, se mêlant par pénétration graduelle, pacifique, plus encore que par irruption violente un autre peuple eussent pris de celui-ci, telle quelle, plus ou moins imparfaite, sa manière d écrire. Quoi qu'il en soit, en Élam même, les scribes sémitiques, longtemps après Naràm Sin (voir les légendes de Kuk Kirpiaê), ne se depar tirent pas de leur manière défectueuse, inférieure, ni ne se laissèrent gagner par le bon exemple et les procédés meilleurs des scribes anzanites.
