Edmonton, Moss (1960) found that the average date of flowering for quaking aspen has been April 25 for the period 1928-1960, and occurred only after 6 days of air temperatures of 12° C or more. An increasing heat requirement for flowering in more severe cli mates could be an important survival trait, but provenance studies are needed to determine if such is the case.
