The approach adheres to the industry standard test procedure by fitting an ellipse to the edge table to obtain geometric measurements. The author uses a data filter based on the least median of squares criterion to create high breakdown resistance to outliers. The book also includes computational issues and a description of a computer program that takes the digitized image, locates and filters the edge points, and estimates the geometric parameters of interest.
