The initial enthusiasm was tempered by the technical challenges, limited utility, and high costs associated with early models. The arrival of the more reliable kerosene-powered tractors was a turning point, offering better fuel economy and reliability. Farmers were also starting to appreciate the benefits tractors brought, extending their work capacity, and enabling them to cultivate more land than ever before. Despite these advantages, the average farmer did not see tractors as a replacement for horses but as an expansion of their capabilities.
