Excerpt from Cuentos Alegres
Not only was Taboada praised by writers of such standing, but he was a prophet honored in his own country. In August 1904, his native town named a street after him and gave a banquet in his honor. Upon this occasion he made a speech in which he had something to say about his purpose as a humorist, and his words remind one of what a Florentine novelist, the famous Sacchetti, wrote in the introduction to his collection of stories some five hundred years ago.
