Excerpt from Ntrm, a Soil-Crop Simulation Model for Nitrogen, Tillage, and Crop-Residue Management
Timeoutput appears reasonable over the expected range of input parameters Graphical output has been used to a real advantage in these analyses.
Field testing of the overall integrated model has been a continuing process as additional data sets are analyzed. For example, corn yield results for four different locations, three in Minnesota and one in Ohio, are presented in figure Yield differences seen here are primarily the result of climatic differences as opposed to variations in management.
Figures and are examples of crop dry matter production and crop nitrogen uptake curves, in this case for predicted and Observed corn data collected on a control site at Apple Valley, mn. The model run indicated that nitrogen was not limiting and a relatively shallow root system would be expected because of ample nutrient availability and moist soil conditions at shallow depths. This was confirmed by root samples in the field.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a comprehensive overview of a large-scale computer simulation model developed for tillage, crop residue, and nitrogen fertilizer management. The NTRM model, as it is called, has a wide range of applications in research, engineering, forecasting, teaching, extension, and direct use by farmers. The book explains how the NTRM model simulates physical, chemical, and biological processes in the soil-water-crop continuum using integrated submodels for soil temperature, soil carbon and nitrogen transformations, unsaturated flow of water, crop and root growth, evaporation and transpiration, tillage, interception and infiltration, chemical equilibria processes, solute transport, and crop residues. The book presents detailed technical descriptions of each submodel, along with validation and verification information for each submodel and the overall model. It also includes chapters that discuss management applications of the model and simplified versions/configurations that may be appropriate for specialized model uses. The book concludes by outlining future research needs in this field, making it an essential resource for anyone interested in using simulation models to improve soil and crop management practices.
