Drei Themen laufen im ganzen Buch. Die erste ist, dass alle Risikokapitalgeber mit enormen Anreiz- und Informationsproblemen konfrontiert sind. Die zweite ist, dass der gesamte Prozess am besten als Zyklus betrachtet wird, da die verschiedenen Phasen der Risikokapitalprozesse zusammenhängen. Drittens stellt sich die Risikokapitalbranche im Gegensatz zu den meisten Finanzmärkten sehr langsam auf Veränderungen im Angebot an Kapital und der Nachfrage nach Finanzierungen ein.
