Excerpt from Net Economic Value of Deer Hunting in Idaho
Recreation associated with wildlife obviously has economic value. However, opinions on the nature and level of this economic value vary widely, in part because of the different definitions of economic value held by managers, biologists, and economists and in part because of the different methodologies used to estimate economic value. Using results of a state-wide survey, this bulletin describes consumer surplus benefits, one of several categories of economic value associated with deer hunt ing in Idaho.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book studies deer hunting in Idaho as a recreational activity of great value for both the state and its hunters. It explores the economic dimensions of the sport, focusing on how much hunters are willing to pay to pursue their passion. Two established methods of economic analysis, the Travel Cost Method (TCM), and the Contingent Value Method (CVM), are utilized. The research team surveyed deer hunters, asking about their hunting trips, expenditures, and willingness to pay for additional deer sightings and hunting opportunities. The combination of the two methods provided consistent estimates of the economic value of deer hunting in the state, with an average value of 50 dollars per hunting trip over and above what is already spent. The authors emphasize the importance of economic valuation in decision-making, particularly in regard to how resources, such as wildlife, can be managed effectively. This book's insights can inform policies and practices related to wildlife management, conservation, and recreation, highlighting the substantial economic and social benefits of deer hunting in Idaho.
