Quoiqu'il en soit, à cette époque (1119 ou le couvent latin d'hébron avait pour prieur un certain Rainier qui était allé à Jéru salem pour les affaires de son monastère. On introduisit alors des ouvriers pour continuer les fouilles dans cette direction mais ce ne fut que le cinquième jour qu'apparut l'entrée d'une sorte d'aqueduc, large d'une coudée, long de dix-sept et haut de onze. Ici, même construction que dans le caveau d'entrée, même paroi sans joints apparents. Arnoul reprend son marteau, interroge de nouveau le roc et finit par trouver une troisième pierre dont l'enlèvement demande quatre nouveaux jours de travail, et donne entrée dans une petite basilique ronde, dont le plafond paraissait fait d'une seule pierre et qui pouvait contenir trente personnes.
